Description

Green Prince is one of the two princes of the lost kingdom of Verdania, a tragic figure consumed by love and loss. Imprisoned in Sinner's Road for unknown crimes against the Citadel, he harbors deep hatred for the institution that destroyed his homeland and transformed his beloved into the mechanical Cogwork Dancers. His story is one of sacrifice, despair, and the devastating cost of resistance against tyranny.

Background

As a prince of Verdania, Green Prince witnessed his kingdom's fall to the Citadel's influence. His partner, in a desperate attempt to save their homeland, gave his "whole" - shell and soul - to become the mould for the Cogwork Dancers, hoping this sacrifice would leave their caves safe. The plan failed, and Green Prince was imprisoned for crimes against the Citadel, forced to watch helplessly as everything he loved was lost.

Story Arc

Imprisonment

Green Prince is first found locked in a cage on Sinner's Road, resigned to his fate. Without a Simple Key, he accepts his imprisonment as just another cruelty of the kingdom, preferring to waste away rather than rage helplessly against his captors.

Liberation

When freed with a Simple Key, Green Prince reluctantly acknowledges his liberation but warns that safety is a myth in Pharloom. Despite his reluctance, his "wish" compels him to continue his journey, though he had tried to avoid it.

The Search

After his release, Green Prince travels to the Choral Chambers, expressing hatred for the Citadel's halls. He seeks to witness the fate of the Cogwork Dancers - the mechanical forms that contain his lover's essence.

Tragic Discovery

Upon finding that the Cogwork Dancers have been destroyed, Green Prince experiences profound grief mixed with relief. He finally learns the full story of his partner's sacrifice and mourns both the loss of his love and the futility of their struggle.

Final Confrontation

In Lost Verdania, Green Prince can be found with the shell of one of the Cogwork Dancers, mourning his lost love. After collecting his memories throughout the area, he challenges Hornet to a final duel at the peak of the lost kingdom. After his defeat, he lies motionless beside the dancer's shell, finally reunited in death.

Key Dialogue

On His Imprisonment

""Leave me be, traveller. Better I accept this kingdom's cruelty than rage helpless against it. To waste in a cell, forgotten. 'Tis no worse a fate than the Haunting that binds Pharloom's many fragile minds.""

On Freedom

""So I am freed, despite no request of mine for aid... No. I shall depart shortly. With my way clear, my wish again propels me, though I tried to avoid it.""

On the Citadel

""I'd hoped to never step these hateful halls, yet here I stand, as all those hapless bugs before... Few others seem possessed of will enough to resist. So many weak minds, drawn up and strung, in love with the great golden leech atop their lands.""

On His Lost Love

""The dancers... they were the last free act of my partner... Always hopeful. Always naive. His whole he gave, in desperate trade to see our own caves left safe. His shell and soul became the mould. So long, I dared not visit... Even as our lands fell to thread and ruin...""

Needolin Messages

""Together... perfect... Together we danced... Our gaze... as one... Our claws clasped Together we ruled... You and I... always...""

Relationship with Cogwork Dancers

The Cogwork Dancers are revealed to be mechanical recreations of Green Prince and his male partner, created from his lover's sacrifice. Their dance represents the happiness they once shared, now trapped in bronze and iron. Green Prince's Needolin dialogue mirrors that of the Cogwork Dancers, emphasizing their eternal connection.
