This guide will help you unlock and use the Diving Bell in the Deep Docks region, a late-game feature that leads to deeper areas and new story content.
1. Unlocking Act 3
To access the Diving Bell, you must first unlock Act 3 of the game. There are two main ways to do this:
- Complete the Snared Silk ending: Finish the main storyline to reach this ending. Afterward, reload your save and the game will enter Act 3 automatically.
- Finish all side objectives: Alternatively, you can unlock Act 3 by completing all wishes (side quests) from the quest boards and moving the Flea Caravan to its final location. Collecting at least 25 out of 30 fleas is recommended to ensure the caravan moves.
2. Starting the Diving Bell Quest
Once Act 3 begins:
- Go to the First Shrine (Songclave): In the cathedral area (top right), speak with the priest. He will start the “Silk and Song” quest and provide hints for each step.
- Talk to Forge Daughter and Ballow: After the priest’s instructions, find Forge Daughter (the blacksmith) and her helper, Ballow (the small character shoveling rocks to her right). Speak with both of them.
- Ballow moves to the Diving Bell: Ballow will relocate to the Diving Bell area in Deep Docks after your conversation.
3. Finding and Reaching the Diving Bell
- Location: The Diving Bell is in the lower section of Deep Docks, beneath the metallurgy shop. You need a Simple Key to unlock a door to access this area.
- Route:
- Start at the passageway between Deep Docks and Far Fields.
- Use a Simple Key to open the door on the Deep Docks side.
- Navigate through a platforming section and defeat a miniboss (the helmeted brothers).
- Use levers to lower a bridge and open the path to the Diving Bell.
- The Far Fields side has a breakable wall, but it can only be opened from the Deep Docks side.
4. Progressing the Quest
- Control Room: After Ballow arrives, head to the control room above the Diving Bell. Interact with the NPCs and follow the quest prompts to unlock the bell or open the new passage.
- If you get stuck: Make sure you have completed all required conversations (priest → Forge Daughter → Ballow) and that Act 3 is active. If the control room is locked or NPCs repeat dialogue, try reloading the area or double-checking quest steps.
5. Additional Tips
- The priest will give you clues for each objective, including finding four specific souls (such as Seeker’s Soul, Hermit’s Soul, and Snare Setter).
- Hermit’s Soul is in a secret room below Bellhart Station (right wall passage).
- Snare Setter is found in the Weavenest Atla region.
- Completing all side content before Act 3 is recommended to avoid missing quest triggers.
6. Common Pitfalls
- The Architect does not sell the Diving Bell key.
- You do not need to complete the game while cursed to access Act 3.
- Make sure all relevant dialogue chains are finished before returning to the Diving Bell.
